BOVEN DIGOEL – As a company that engages in palm oil plantation business in Papua, PT Tunas Sawa Erma (PT. TSE) is committed to practicing sustainable palm oil governance and keeps innovating in an effort to prioritize fulfilling its environmental and social responsibility.

This commitment is reflected in the company’s recent environmental conservation campaign, which involved PT. TSE employees and the community of Ujung Kia Village, Ki District, Boven Digoel, Papua.

“It is our responsibility to protect the surrounding environment with its numerous flora and fauna. Preservation efforts are needed to save endemic species from extinction, given that some animal populations are decreasing. Doing this is a form of our concern towards the lives of the next generation,” said Andi Budi Darmanto, PT Tunas Sawa Erma’s Deputy General Manager.

PT TSE took a more creative and engaging approach to send their message, like using illustrations to help locals identify animals whose population is declining. The campaign also involved a joint activity in which company representatives and the local community put warning signages inside the conservation zone.

Villagers expressed their appreciation for the company’s approach. The drawings help them recognize which animals are legal to hunt and which ones are not. What’s more, now they have a better understanding of how crucial it is to maintain the natural environment. Not only adults, local kids also paid close attention to the explanation of Papua’s native animals.

“This campaign makes us more aware of protecting our environment and creatures living in it,” said Klemes Ibo, Yore clan chief and representative.

The organized effort is a part of PT Tunas Sawa Erma’s Corporate Social Contribution (CSC) program, which aims to increase awareness of the significance of nature, flora, and fauna safeguarding efforts on conservation areas outside company grounds. (PR)
