HALMAHERA SELATAN – To support the productivity and welfare of coastal communities, PT Gelora Mandiri Membangun (PT GMM) has distributed five ketingting boats complete with engines to fishermen in Gane Dalam Village, South Gane Barat District, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku.

The handover took place at PT GMM’s Main Camp on Monday (April 20, 2026). It was attended by representatives from the South Gane Barat District and Gane Dalam Village governments, military personnel, the Village Consultative Body (BPD), and the beneficiaries.

The aid, which consisted of five ketingting boats and five four-stroke engines, is expected to extend the fishermen’s sailing range, increase their catch, and ultimately boost the local community’s income.

PT GMM Director Jibae Park noted that while the South Gane Barat region has massive marine potential, it still lacks supporting facilities, especially adequate sea transport for local fishermen.

“The marine potential here is huge, but there are obstacles like limited equipment. With this aid, we hope the fishermen can increase their productivity and expand their fishing grounds, which will impact their welfare,” Park explained.

He added that the assistance is part of the company’s commitment to supporting the South Halmahera government’s agromaritime program while boosting the local economy around its operational area. Synergy among the company, local government, authorities, and the community, he said, is key to creating sustainable development in the marine and fisheries sector.

The initiative was well received by Gane Dalam Village Head Risman B. Dulhaji, who expressed his appreciation for PT GMM’s support. He considered the assistance highly relevant to the needs of his village’s fishermen.

“This really helps our fishermen, especially in catching more fish and making their sea trips more effective. We hope this has a direct impact on improving the community’s livelihood,” he said.

PT GMM also encouraged the community to make the most of the aid and maintain the equipment well so it can provide long-term benefits.

This program is part of the company’s Corporate Social Contribution (CSC), which focuses on improving community welfare and strengthening harmonious relations with the environment around its operational areas. (*)
