MERAUKE – Dongin Prabhawa (DP), a subsidiary of Tunas Sawa Erma Group, hosted an environmental outreach event on Saturday (9/27) at Tagaepe Subvillage, Ngguti District. It was an event focused on boosting biodiversity awareness and protection in Papuan communities.

Villagers were introduced to at-risk endemic populations by the company’s ISPO (Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil) team.

“We want everyone, especially young people, to see forest conservation as a shared responsibility. Species and ecosystem diversity are an important legacy to pass on to our future generations,” said ISPO Manager Imam Purwono.

Papua’s flora and fauna are part of the eastern subdivision in Indonesia’s biogeographical map, which covers the species-rich regions of Indomalaya and Australasia. They account for half of the country’s biodiversity and are not found anywhere else on the planet.

Having now acknowledged their significance and the crucial role of preservation work, Tagaepe woman Agustina Kaize said, “We’ve been living with the forest for so long, but now we fully understand why protecting it is necessary. From the company [too], we learn how to always be environmentally aware.”

health camp was then organized for locals who attended. Dongin Prabhawa’s medical team provided free blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, consultations, and medication.

The company remains committed to sustainable oil palm practices, focusing on balancing economic, environmental, and social interests to align with its vision of harmony. (PR)
