MERAUKE – PT Dongin Prabhawa, a part of the Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group, held an awareness campaign on endangered flora and fauna by involving the surrounding community. This time, the company invited the residents of Beabe Hamlet, Ngguti District, Merauke, Papua, in the educational activity on protected wildlife and plants on Saturday (11/12).
In this activity, the team from Dongin Prabhawa introduced the types of flora and fauna that need to be maintained and protected, including their habitat. Some of them are kangaroos, birds of paradise, parrots, cassowaries, black orchid, cat’s whiskers plants, and red fruits.
Dongin Prabhawa also invited Ngguti community to take part in installing sign boards that show images of the protected flora and fauna. The sign boards are expected to become a reminder for the community to maintain the preservation of endangered wildlife and plants in their surroundings.
The residents of Beabe Hamlet welcomed the educational activity. One of the residents, Yulius Basik expressed gratitude to the company for sharing very beneficial information,
“With this kind of education, now we understood the impact that could arise if we did not take care of the animals and plants in the forest,” he said.
Public Relations Manager of Dongin Prabhawa James R. Sondakh Pesik hoped that the series of activities that has been held by the company could increase public awareness on the environment, including the protected flora and fauna.
“Human beings must also protect the forest and everything in it. Therefore, we felt the need to share education about taking care of the forest as well as flora and fauna, to the Merauke community living in the remote area,” he said
This education and socialization activity on the importance of preserving endangered wildlife and plants is part of the Corporate Social Contribution (CSC) programs in environment that are being intensively carried out by Dongin Prabhawa.
Previously, the company has also provided counseling on the protection of endangered animals and plants as well as environment preservation of Mawek River water in Mam, Merauke. In this activity, Dongin Prabhawa also involved the students and teachers of SD YPK Mam. (PPA Humas S&C)
