BOVEN DIGOEL – Silahturahmi — the Indonesian tradition of communal gathering — is a great way to learn about the people around you. TSE Group subsidiary PT Tunas Sawa Erma upholds this custom through a collaborative cooking demo with the Getentiris in Jair District, Boven Digoel Regency, South Papua.
Friendly laughter and jokes rang out at the event Saturday (11/18), where chicken sago sep was chosen as the main dish. It is a scrumptious Papuan entrée, made up of sago and chicken that are heated over hot coals.
While the cooking took place, cheers were heard from a distance. Young Getentiris were deeply engaged in a math quiz that also involved TSE Group executive Park Jibae, who had prepared prizes for the kids. Their faces were eager as they shouted answers to each question. Many did well in the game despite living and studying in far-flung places.
The warm and exciting event eventually closed with a luncheon, where the sago sep was rolled out. Everyone enjoyed their meal, hoping to repeat this moment.
“On behalf of the people here, I want to say we’re glad the company visited today. You all gave us something positive and fun [to do],” said clan chief Ambrosius Yasi.
Games and cooking are the company’s ways to strengthen ties with Papua’s isolated communities. PT Tunas Sawa Erma combined both activities for the Getentiris, in its monthly communication session.
