BOVEN DIGOEL – Inner Papua holds tales, which, like the thick foliage of its jungles, need uncovering to be better understood. In its journey to spread kindness across Indonesia’s far east, Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group is doing exactly this; extracting stories from the places it visits.
Through its Corporate Social Contribution initiative on Friday (5/31), which took the form of a free medical service, the company unearthed a dismaying discovery in Watemo Subvillage in Ki District, Boven Digoel Regency.
TSE Group’s medical team found a number of illnesses affecting the community, such as flu, cough, fever, and skin diseases — the last one common in children.
“Our check-up session found diseases varying from flu and cough, fever, to skin conditions in kids,” said dr. Iqbal Ibrahim from the TSE Group clinic.
They are also brought on by unsanitary lifestyles and unstable weather conditions. Knowing this, TSE Group shared with the people information on clean and healthy habits, and encouraged environmental and personal hygiene practices like proper food preparation, and tooth brushing for the kids.
To the Watemos, this event brings both cost-free medical care and a bonding moment with the company. “I look forward to events like this in the future, so that we get both health services from the district government and the company and can always be healthy,” said Watemo village chief Kosmas Site.
Providing free health aid is part of TSE Group’s social responsibilities that are made possible through the Corporate Social Contribution (CSC) program. CSC aims to enhance the quality of life in communities around the company’s operational site. (PR)
