SOUTH PAPUA – Schoolteachers, the vanguards of Papua’s education, hold a vital role in enlightening the young. But only some of them get to have public worker status, even after pouring time and effort into their work. Given their low income, educators across Indonesia are encouraged to become civil servants and enjoy the financial benefits typically given to government employees.

Yet, with a meager quota for new hires and strict selection process, civil service programs do not provide much of this opportunity for many “honorary” or voluntary teachers — including in Papua. This is despite the latter’s merit, experience, and level of dedication that rivals those already on the state payroll.

Recognizing how support is integral to this community, TSE Group has initiated an aid provision program under the Corporate Social Contribution banner to ease teaching staffs’ lives and enhance education quality in this part of the country.

The program’s latest edition took place at Miri Public Elementary in Jair District, Boven Digoel Regency, South Papua, on Thursday (3/20).  This quarterly initiative awards local teachers honorariums for their commitment to educating Papuan children.

“We would like to thank TSE Group for their attention to the honorary teachers here. This aid means a lot to us and we hope it gets our spirits up as we carry out this noble mission. We believe that only with education can hopes and chances for a brighter future present themselves for the kids,” said Henky Waremba, Miri’s principal.

The program seeks to show appreciation and ensures educators remain passionate at work. TSE Group hopes this creates a “sustainable, good impact” on society, primarily through the education system.

In addition, it demonstrates a promise to foster the social environment of nearby communities. TSE Group strives to make contributions that improve education in remote areas while establishing lasting positive changes for the benefit of future generations. (PR)
