BOVEN DIGOEL – Environmental preservation should be taught from an early age. That way, kids will grow up with awareness and a sense of responsibility to take care of the planet. With its Corporate Social Contribution program activity in Naga Village, Jair District (Boven Digoel) on Saturday (2/25), PT Tunas Sawa Erma (PT TSE) aimed to provide this kind of early education for local children.

For the company, it’s essential that the little ones know why and how to protect biodiversity and the natural environment where they live—given the fate of Earth’s abundant resources rests in their very hands. Teaching children this will help them develop sensitivity and concern for nature, and is a valuable investment one can make for future generations.

In this environmental preservation socialization session, PT TSE invited the kids of Naga Village to participate in safeguarding Papua’s biodiversity. The company’s PR Manager, Sutisna, acted as the speaker for this event.

He reminded the audience how their land was a home to a wide variety of exotic, endemic animals by the likes of cassowaries, cuscuses, birds-of-paradise, cockatoos, and crowned pigeons; rare creatures that were now endangered and in need of protection, thanks to poaching.

“The planet that we stand on is part of nature, where there are plants and animals to keep safe and properly hunt, jungles to protect from destructive practices like burning…all so our children and grandchildren can see what we see today,” Sutisna said.

Leader of Naga Village’s five clans Muis Gembenop shared with the company his appreciation and gratitude for the activity. In return, PT TSE employees expressed hopes that their relationship would last for many years to come.

Toward the event’s end, both parties had a casual discussion on other social environmental development programs in Naga Village, while dining on a meal made by Naga women and company representatives. (PR)
