BOVEN DIGOEL – Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group and the local community organized a neighborhood cleanup action Saturday (3/16) in Ujung Kia Subvillage, Ki District, Boven Digoel Regency, South Papua. This event involved picking up trash from village streets and storing them in plastic trash bags that participants carried around.
Removing waste from homes and villages is an easy way to lower risks of environmental pollution and prevent dengue fever spread.
With the spirit of teamwork, Ujung Kians moved from point to point as they cleaned every corner of house yards and the main street. Not only adults were involved, children of various ages were also participating. Their presence was expected to bring a sense of camaraderie among villagers, and raise the importance of maintaining hygiene and developing a responsibility to do this (as well as protecting the environment) from early childhood.
“I would like to thank Tunas Sawa Erma for inviting us to the cleanup. It is really a beneficial activity for us and especially for the kids. They can learn from early on to preserve the environment and cleanliness on their own,” said Basilius Bago, Ujung Kia’s village secretary.
This activity is part of the company’s ongoing social and environmental responsibility to “spread the spirit of hygiene” at Ujung Kia, made possible through the Corporate Social Contribution (CSC) program. (PR)
