TSE Group holds a middle school level quiz competition in an effort to establish a “Golden Generation” in Papua

BOVEN DIGOEL – Indonesia will be a hundred years old by 2045, a time when it’s hoped to join the world’s most advanced economies. Along with other things, this vision of a more developed nation has given rise to “Generasi Emas” (Golden Generation), a state-promoted ideal of the future generation.

The road to attaining this, however, is decidedly long and impossible to cross without the help of many parties, like Papua-based palm oil company Tunas Sawa Erma Group (TSE Group). The firm is taking a small step towards establishing the region’s own Golden Generation.

In honor of National Education Day Saturday (5/11), TSE Group invited nearby junior high schools to compete in a quiz competition as part of an effort to improve student quality and competitiveness.

“This event demonstrates our commitment to ensuring people development in our operational areas, where by people, we especially mean members of the local education system. It also serves as a way to assess student quality,” said TSE Group’s PR Deputy General Manager, Daniel Sim Ayomi.

Seven schools participated in the quiz bowl themed “Generasi Cerdas, Indonesia Emas” (Smart Generation, Golden Indonesia). They were Asiki Public Junior High, Nurush Shobah Islamic Junior High, Jair 1 Public Junior High, Ujung Kia Public Junior High, Camp 19 Public Junior High, Terek Subur 1 Public Junior High, and Mam Public Junior High.

There were two rounds: elimination and finals. The first involved mandatory and tossup questions, where three teams with the most correct answers got to pass to the next round. These lucky teams were Nurush Shobah, Mam, and Ujung Kia.

After an intense fight at the finals, Nurush Shobah emerged in first place, followed by Mam and Ujung Kia respectively.

“Last year, we ranked fifth, but today we’re in second place. We’re so pleased [with this achievement] and also to be meeting kids from other schools. I hope the event returns next year,” said Mam team member Yohanes.

Putting social responsibility at the forefront, TSE Group continues to innovate through Corporate Social Contribution (CSC) as it seeks to build a more sustainable society. (PR)
