JAKARTA – Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group won the category “First Use of Biogas in Papua” at this year’s Sawit Award Tuesday (12/16) in Jakarta. Director Luwy Leunufna received the plaque on behalf of the company.
“First Use of Biogas in Papua” recognizes TSE Group’s work to deliver renewable energy from palm oil mill effluent (POME) through biogas plant construction. The first in Papua, this initiative has contributed to greenhouse gas emissions reduction and operational efficiency on an industrial scale.
Leveraging biogas technology is one way people can actually transform waste into clean energy, said Leunufna.
“Biogas applications are a testament to waste-to-valuable renewable energy transformation. We can now turn palm oil mill effluent from an environmental issue to a clean, low-emission energy source that also boosts operational efficiency and offers social and economic benefits.”
TSE Group’s biogas facility thus marks a milestone in the company’s energy transition journey and in its efforts to strengthen industry-wide commitment to sustainable development. It meets Sawit Award’s three primary criteria: communication, consistency, and sustainability.
The event themed “Multi-stakeholder Collaboration for Strengthening Local Oil Palm Innovation and Competitiveness” bases its selection process on a survey of 1,000 Sawit Indonesia readers, which lends it its stellar reputation and credible track record.

2025 sees 43 categories with winners from various backgrounds and fields, including farmers, academicians, small and medium business owners, corporations, cooperatives, and ordinary citizens.
Sawit Award itself is founded on the need to drive industry performance from end to end, allowing palm oil companies to make an even greater impact on people and the nation.
Since 2022, this event has continued to run and serve as a platform for appreciation and growth for those adopting sustainability practices and improving performance in the local palm oil sector. (PR)
