BOVEN DIGOEL – Butiptiri villagers in Jair District, Boven Digoel Regency yearn for longer days. When night rolls around, the entire neighborhood turns pitch black. Like any 3T (remote, backward, frontier) region, the subvillage is one of many in Boven Digoel without 24-hour power access.
Not all Indonesians have their energy needs met, especially those in isolated, peripheral areas. This is due to factors like hard-to-reach locations.
With the lack of electricity, many continue their use of oil lamps to light their homes at night. These lamps accompany household members during their activities, including children while they study.
Such a condition encouraged Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group to help the Butiptiris through its subsidiary PT Tunas Sawa Erma (PT TSE). Representing the company, Yohanes Sada Nanlohi presented subvillage chief Lewi Arteka with a diesel generator Saturday (11/18) in a symbolic ceremony.
“Before this, we received a similar donation from the local government, but it didn’t take long before the machine broke and we had to live without electricity for a year. Now, it’s not the case anymore, because we have a new generator [from TSE Group]. For that, we thank the company,” said Arteka.
As a response, TSE Group expressed its wish that the machine would be used well to make doing daily activities easier.
At the same event, the company provided health services without charge. dr. Firman Jayawijaya and TSE clinic team administered checkups and distributed medicines.
TSE Group is an oil palm plantation and management company in South Papua, which commits to practicing sustainable palm oil governance and puts out innovations to prioritize its environmental and social responsibilities. (PR)
