BOVEN DIGOEL – After years of lacking access to medical care, the Kapoughus in Jair District, Boven Digoel, finally found relief. On Saturday (5/31), amid the dense forests of Inner Papua, dozens of people stood in line for medical check-up and treatment, eyes gleaming with hope.
This free service is an initiative by Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group. The South Papua-based company conducts healthcare outreach on a regular basis as part of its Corporate Social Contribution (CSC) programs. Through this initiative, TSE Group seeks to provide local communities with access to care that has long been difficult to reach.
As with other subvillages in Boven Digoel, the route to Kapoughu can be quite unfriendly. Coupled with the secluded location and limited infrastructure, this makes it almost impossible to deliver health services. The TSE Group team had to use a boat to travel and carry their equipment and medicine supplies.
Maximus Mamere, who leads Kapoughu’s consultative body, agreed, “To get treatment, we [locals] have to go to the district puskesmas [state-run health center] that’s one hour away. And we’re using ketinting [traditional boat] to do that. So TSE Group’s visit today, with the free check-up and treatment, really helped us.”
Villagers of all ages were examined for illnesses, with many showing long-term health conditions like respiratory disorders and skin disease (adults) as well as poor nutrition (children).

“Health is a basic right for everyone, and the Kapoughus are no exception. Our mobile health services offer check-ups, medications, vitamins, and information sessions on hygiene and healthy habits to bring better health to our patients and enable them to live to the fullest,” said doctor Iqbal Ibrahim.
TSE Group believes its work will improve community health within its operational area, in line with a promise to ensure socially sustainable development.
As an oil palm plantation and management company, TSE Group is committed to creating a harmonious and sustainable future through programs aimed at developing social environments of rural communities. (PR)
