MERAUKE – Papua Agro Lestari (PAL) is once again encouraging customary communities to protect the surrounding environment through education and warning signpost installation in Mutimangge Subvillage, Ulilin District, Merauke Regency (South Papua) on Saturday (8/24).
“As a company that runs its business following sustainability principles, we want to get the locals involved in safeguarding Papua’s flora and fauna riches,” said Yunika Mangiri from PAL’s Sustainability Department.
Papuan forests have a remarkable amount of biodiversity; in fact, they are one of the most diverse in the world. Their unique geographical location and climate conditions have created a wide range of ecosystems not often found in other parts of the globe.
To preserve these natural resources, which include South Papua’s endemic population, PAL rolls out several measures to keep high conservation value areas around its sites in pristine condition. Among these measures are the environmental education program and warning signposts.
Environmental education is a regular activity in PAL’s Sustainability Department, which has taken place in multiple subvillages and schools. It’s one way the company can afford protection to the province’s precious environment.
Beyond conservation campaigns, PAL’s CSR programs for the Mutimangges (also known as Corporate Social Contribution programs) extend to health promotion and free treatment services, both handled by the company’s clinic team and aimed at improving welfare.
