SOUTH PAPUA – Tunas Sawa Erma Group subsidiary Papua Agro Lestari (PAL) has recently wrapped up a skill development program for working-age locals. It’s aimed at increasing office and oil palm farm management capabilities.
Indigenous trainees were trained in a wide range of jobs, including office administration, oil palm seed propagation, oil palm planting, oil palm maintenance, and oil palm harvest. In addition to theory, they got practice sessions designed to provide hands-on experience and reinforce the lessons learned.
What PAL did is upskilling, which is central to people development in Papua.
“We are committed to empowering local communities through programs that improve talent quality. We hope this training helps potential workers prepare better before they enter the workforce, or create their own jobs,” said TSE Group’s PR General Manager Daniel Sim Ayomi.

In the ever-evolving work landscape, job-based training plays a strategic role, whether it’s in supporting the future of employment, providing access to wider employment opportunities, or encouraging financial independence among indigenous families.
Trainee Graham Koula shared this notion.
“I’m very grateful that I could participate. The knowledge I gained, especially oil palm cultivation, would be really useful,” Koula told the PR team.
This course is a testament to PAL’s commitment to developing local talent capacity. By its end, trainees were expected to leverage the skills learned to gain better job opportunities, or start businesses that would contribute to regional economic growth. (PR)
