MERAUKE – PT Dongin Prabhawa (DP), a part of Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group, organized a free healthcare program for the community in Nakias Village, Merauke, Papua, Saturday (4/9). The activity was held in conjunction with a discussion event between the company and community living around the company area, which is regularly held every month.
Previously, a similar event was held in Tagaepe Village, which is also located in the Merauke region. The monthly discussion and social service events are part of TSE Group’s Corporate Social Contribution (CSC) program as the company’s real concern for the health of the community while also to improve a good relationship that has been built between both parties.
As many as 73 residents of Nakias Village attended the monthly discussion event. Prior to the event, the management team and medical workers who were present advised people to be disciplined in following health protocol as an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The company management involved a doctor and a nurse from the clinic located in the company area, namely Dr. Angga and Petrus. They performed a thorough examination on each community member and provided the medicine needed. These examination and treatment covered all groups of community, from children, adults, to the elderly.
Dr. Angga said that from the examination results, on average, residents of Nakias Village suffered from Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) or shortness of breath and several skin diseases. “This is caused by unpredictable weather. Moreover, it has not rained for the past few days, so dust is everywhere,” he explained.
In addition to examining the residents’ health conditions, DP management together with the medical workers gave away mosquito nets to the residents. This donation is expected to help prevent malaria in Nakias Village.
The joint event attended by residents and the company representatives was followed by a dialogue discussing various things. One of the representatives of Nakias Village community, Yoas Kaize, expressed his appreciation and hope for the event held by DP. “We are very grateful to be visited by the company, especially with the health services that directly reached out to the community. It’s the best thing we’ve ever had,” he said.
Following the discussion, the community together with the company watched a movie screening on vegetable cultivation and chicken farming. An inspirational story titled, ‘Sejuta Asa Mama Papua’ (A Million Hopes of Papuan Women) was also shown to bring out motivation on entrepreneurship in residents of Nakias Village.
The gathering event series ended with a joint meal, which had been prepared by the women of Nakias Village and the team from the company. The dishes served were traditional food from the local area. (Besse Sarifa Innong/ PPA Humas S&C)
