BOVEN DIGOEL – In places where access to anything is limited — even the internet and mainstream media — Asiki FM holds a special significance. Airing from inner Boven Digoel, near the border with Papua New Guinea, this radio station has been connecting rural communities with critical information since 2017.
Through its flagship programs, Asiki FM strives to enrich local knowledge while providing engaging entertainment for its target audience. Its broadcasts cover not only local and national news but also include educational shows.
An online streaming feature enables the station to share Papuan stories with the rest of Indonesia and beyond. Out-of-town indigenous listeners can expect to cure their homesick blues, no matter where they are.
“We’re also doing live streams, so anyone, regardless of age or location, can access our broadcasts. As long as you’re connected to the internet, you can enjoy fun, informative content from Asiki, Papua,” said Uni, who joined Asiki FM in 2017 as a host.
Also known for its slogan, “Pride of Asiki”, the radio operating on the frequency 107.7 FM features five main programs: Salam Asiki (08.00 – 10.00 AM), Selamat Pagi Asiki (10.00 AM – 12.00 PM), Asiki Oldies (12.00 – 02.00 PM), Dangdut Asiki (02.00 – 03.00 PM), and Terminal Asiki (03.00 – 05.00 PM), followed by non-stop music until its sign-off at midnight.

Asiki FM offers a wide range of programming that resonates with and is relevant to local audiences, including news, cultural content, and playlists featuring dangdut, regional, and contemporary songs.
“Sometimes, we give quizzes to keep things interesting. We draw inspiration from holidays, like when it’s Kartini Day [on that day], then the questions will revolve around that. Winners get small prizes.”
Being the only community radio station in Boven Digoel, its presence excites Asiki and surrounding subvillages. Thousands of people have continued to tune in from homes and public spaces as they go about their daily activities.
Asiki FM is a testament to regional progress and development. This humble station has become a symbol of community power, teamwork, and drive for collective growth. (PR)
