BOVEN DIGOEL Sustainability and conservation issues have driven Tunas Sawa Erma Group, an oil palm plantation and management company in South Papua, to develop ways to maintain ecosystem balance and ensure a better future for all.

Its commitment includes distributing dozens of fruit tree seedlings, with varieties ranging from rambutan, durian, to longan, at Getentiri Subvillage in Jair District, Boven Digoel Regency.

But beyond that, the company participated in a planting drive it organized for the subvillage. This activity was aimed at cutting emissions and preventing erosion, while providing a habitat for multiple plants and animals.

“[These seedlings] are more than donations; they’re a step towards responsible farming practices that take into account environmental preservation,” explained manager Kiin Kim. Kim hoped to bring long-term benefits, both from selling fruit harvests and increasing vegetation cover.

The initiative was well received. One of Getentiri’s clan leaders, Sesilius Barue, even praised the company for its approach to community aid.

“We’re happy, but not only for the help — [the company] really wants us to work with them [in planting]. The employees came here, talked with us, and went planting with our members. The way they came off didn’t feel ceremonial or corporate-y.”

It’s an action that demonstrates how environmental awareness can begin with small but impactful steps, like tree planting. That said, TSE Group is committed to protecting local biodiversity and ecosystems, part of its social responsibility to create a more sustainable future. (PR)
