JAKARTA – Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group is championing cross-sector collaboration in broadening the uses of biogas power plants for energy-poor communities. Its efforts were presented at the “9th Biogas Biomass & Bioenergy Asia Summit 2025 – Indonesia Focus”, part of the Asean Energy Transition & Decarbonization Series, on Thursday (12/4).
At this global forum at Bidakara Hotel, South Jakarta, TSE Group Director Luwy Leunufna reaffirmed a commitment to providing Indonesia’s remote populations with clean energy through biogas power plant projects that utilize palm oil mill effluent (POME).
Not only are these projects a breakthrough in company operations, they also boost opportunities for energy delivery across local neighborhoods. With an underdeveloped power network, South Papua would have to rely on low-carbon energy innovations to meet its diverse needs, Leunufna believed.
“It’s important that the public and private sectors work together [to make this happen]. As a [privately-owned] company, we aim to give our best in serving the nation.”
TSE Group is currently operating a 2-megawatt (MW) biogas facility to cover electricity needs at its palm kernel crushing plant. However, the company is open to enabling broader applications, such as supplying local PLN customers through power network integration, building mini-grids for villages, and producing compressed biomethane gas (CBG).
This technology accounts for up to 60,708 tons of CO₂e in annual emissions reduction, and supports TSE Group’s SBTi-approved net-zero goals for 2050.

Through public-private partnerships at both central and regional levels, TSE Group hopes to accelerate POME-based renewable energy development while driving energy equity in South Papua.
“Building this power plant is a key and crucial strategy to speed up emissions reduction and achieve net zero emissions,” Leunufna stressed.
By participating in the 9th Biogas Biomass & Bioenergy Asia Summit 2025– Indonesia Focus, the company strengthens its position as an example for green energy/agriculture integration and biogas infrastructure development in inner rural areas. (PR)
