KBRN, Boven Digoel: Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE), an oil palm plantation company based in Boven Digoel, South Papua Province, continues to demonstrate its social responsibilities through a series of CSR programs dating back from the company’s inception.
These programs are centered on five “pillars”: education, healthcare, infrastructure, economy, and environment, said its general affairs manager, Satuman, during an interview with the RRI team Wednesday (7/23).
“As part of our commitment to building a sustainable economy, better living standards, and beneficial environments, we provide local communities with ongoing training in partnership with local agriculture or farming services. We teach people how to grow vegetables, raise chickens or fish, [basically farm] in line with Indonesia’s food security programs. Also, we give the children of local landowners a chance to broaden their horizon at our partner universities; [this one is part of our] people development initiatives.”
Once these students graduate, they are given the freedom to work anywhere they like, in or outside Tunas Sawa Erma. As said by Satuman, this initiative mainly aims to develop the capabilities of local community members.
Meanwhile, the company carries on with its free treatment and health education program across settlements with limited access to healthcare facilities.
Before concluding the interview, Satuman hoped for “continued strengthening of communication” between the local government, general public, companies, and landowners in their efforts to ensure community well-being and development. (PR)
