MERAUKE – On Thursday (1/12), PT Berkat Cipta Abadi (PT BCA) conducted a water quality test to monitor Waterno River (Ulilin District, Merauke Regency)’s pH level.
This examination is held month-to-month in PT BCA’s nearby rivers and streams. It involves an “Environmental Team” that comprises ISPO representatives, PT BCA’s PR and General Affairs teams, CPO lab team, and the general public.
“Our goal is to find out whether the surface water is of good quality. For the sake of being transparent for our stakeholders, we brought in external parties to help with the process,” Daun Napa Dualalo, the planning manager and person in charge of ISPO, explained.
And so far, the results had been satisfactory, he said. The pH was continually found at safe levels for aquatic life.
Quality checking is done by taking a 200 ml surface water sample in two spots: the river’s upstream and downstream areas. After that, the CPO lab team will check its pH level using a pH meter. This time, its outcome was at 6.40 for the upstream and 6.46 for the downstream. These numbers were still in the standard range (pH 6 – 9) that’s based on the Governmental Regulation 82/2001 on the Management of Water Quality and Control over Water Pollution.
