MERAUKE – In support of government initiatives to push developments in remote areas, notably Papua's Special Autonomy zones, PT Dongin Prabhawa (PT DP) came up with a program for the local younger population. It’s called the Social Education program.
It was created with the belief that youth is one of the most important pillars of progress in a region, including the Birds-of-Paradise Land.
Recently, one of the program's events took place at YPK Mam Elementary School and Mam Public Junior High School in company areas, Ngguti District, Merauke Regency, Tuesday (25/10).
It covered lessons on Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (official national motto, meaning ‘unity in diversity') and civics that are aimed at fostering nationalism and helping the audience improve general knowledge. A short English class, as well as a lecture on the dangers of smoking, were also held.
dr. Cecilia from PT Dongin Prabhawa's clinic was brought along for the final session, where she served as the speaker and shared her knowledge on practicing clean and healthy lifestyle. All of these topics are in line with the program's purpose to raise a healthier and more-skilled generation.

A prominent figure in the local community, Melki Salohe, was involved in this event. He gave some words of encouragement, hoping the kids would study harder and “become a more superior generation, gaining qualities that rival those outside Papua”.
“I really appreciate what PT DP's trying to do with this Social Education program, it's like a breath of fresh air for the people here,” Salohe said.
Enthusiastic, curious faces can be seen throughout the event
At the end, there was a little ceremony, where PT Dongin Prabhawa representatives handed over stationery items and sago flour gifts from company-trained sago farmer group in Aiwat Village.
PT Dongin Prabhawa is a company under TSE Group, which engages in palm oil plantation business in Papua. PT DP is committed to practicing sustainable palm oil governance and keeps innovating in an effort to prioritize fulfilling its environmental and social responsibility. (PR)
